Van Gogh-Style Self-portrait

This is the start of our lessons about self refection. We had to make two self-portraits by using Van Gogh brushwork and colour. These self-portraits had to show two different sides or moods of yourself. I've chosen to show my silent, confused, lonely side (above) and my energy-full, inspired, loving side (below).
 

 

 
I first drew a silhouete of myself. After that  I painted the background, with a very grove brush. The clothes and hair followed. I've chosen to paint them with a very thin brush. For the assignment it was important that you can see of which colours the painting consists. You had to include the shadows as well. I got an eight for this assignment, which I guess is a good mark for it. :)

Cathedral Project

For one of my last projects of this schoolyear, we had to make groups and design a gothic cathedral. I was in a group of four, togheter with Thomas, Teun and Karleen. Our gothic cathedral is designed in a French gothic style. Features which can be seen as well in our designs, are the three portals, the rose window and the two main towers on the west façade. Beside this a lot of other things from the gothic style, such as pointed arches, ribbed vaults and the Flying Buttress can be seen.
We made a large map, with topics of our design. Everyone did a few things of this, so we worked as a group. Though Thomas and I probably did a bit more than the others. I have designed the front and back side of the map, put all the things togheter and designed the decorations.
Personally, I really like the map. I put a lot of effort in it, and I am happy with the result. That's why I think the mark we got, a nine, was really worth it.

Lino cut

For my new assignment we had to make our own press tool. First of all we had to design our own label. Then we had to cut the shapes out of a piece of lino. Here you can see it:

After we had finished the lino cut, we painted it. We could choose any colour and then had to stamp it on a piece of paper. For the assignment we had to make at least six prints.
I only handed in three prints. This was because I had missed two lessons, to work on this assignment. Another sad thing happened when I was finished. A boy dropped some water on my paper.

I got a 6,8 for this assignment. I can understand the reason for that, because I only handed in three prints and it isn't my best design. I agree with the mark, but it was sad that I missed two lessons.

Introduce yourself

Our first assignment in this new schoolyear, was to make a drawing which 'introduces yourself'.
In this drawing you had to draw a square of around 20 by 20 cm. In the square you had to draw:
a part of your bedroom, something which represents your hobby, your name (in a special way), a protret of yourself and something of your own choice.
You also had to draw something out of your schoolbag, from wich other people out of your class would regognise it's yours.

For my drawing I got an 8,3 and I think thats a really nice mark for it! We also had to colour it in a special way. The thing I love the most is the background.

City in 2 point perspective

For my last assignment, I had to draw a detailed city blok in two point perspective. Because I was ill, I missed two lessons so my drawing wasn't finished. What I have drown is nice, but if it was finished I think it would have been much better. Furtunately I had a 7,5! I made a picture of my drawing, but you can hardly see the pencil lines so I didn't put it in.

For art we had to paint a landscape. I got a 7 for it. I think I maybe could get a little bit higher mark for it, but I also understand why I haven't: The switch of the colours in the sky is not so nice. That's because I painted the sky in two different lessons so I couldn't get the same colours again.

I also don't really like the colour of the mountains in the front. But I do like the foggy mountains in the back.

<------- This is my painting of a sandwich (tower). Before I got my mark I thought it would be insufficient, because I wasn't finished at all! But I got a 7 for it and I agree with that. My teacher said: "You get a mark for what you have done".

I like the colours of the tomatoes and the cucumbers. But the colour of the bread is not really what I wanted it to be.

It was a funny assignment! (:
